nursing stories

unwashed for 10years

In kenya neigbours were so sickened by the smell of the man they lived near that 4 of them swooped on him and gave him a bath. It took four hours and scrubbing him with sand to remove the filth. he vows to babth everday from now on.

This reminds me of a really unpleasant task I had to do while nursing. An aboriginal woman in her eighties had been being looked after by relatives. she had had a stroke and so was bedridden. umm, they didn't do a very good job, she was filthy, covered in a film of grime and old skin flakes, she had body lice and head lice and the smell was incredible. I felt really awful as I had to wear a face mask and vicks under my nose. She was unable to speak, so I tried to reassure her of what I was doing. I had to change the water about 6 times and basically had to hose her off. It wasn't pleasant for iether of us. But she must h ave been more comfortable after I'd finsihed ,surely.Thankfully she didn't go back to the family but went into a nursing home.

ouchy

Another time I worked in a private hospital that did a lot of workers comp cases.

we  had a regular clientelle of men of middle eastern/european descent who had hurt their backs at work.they used to come in for traction and bedrest. part of the traction would be a lenth of elastoplast from ankle to thigh on both legs.these patients were the bane of our nursing lives, they were very demanding and took us for granted, the only plus was................. that the tape  had to be removed eventually

ouch

when I was training I had to do a stint in ER. There was a little book there of odd complaints people had come in with.

some people have too much time on thier hands.............

many many many men come in with.....things.....stuck in their anus.........from vibrator bits to.........apples. yep he fell on it.

one bright young man came into cas because he had cooked his eggs in dishwashing detergent isntead of oil, it must have been yellow I guess, anyway he wasn't concerned about poisoning,............nooooo.................would it affect his sex life???

There was a man who came in with the inner part of a pen inserted into his penis, he pushed it up too far and lost it. Another who had a fair bit of fine copper wire in there.

Lots of women forget tampons and use another one forgetting to take out the old one, it was very common. They also lost bits in there but nothing overly unusual comes to mind.
